How long does a Fair Deal application take?

The HSE's assessment typically takes about 4–6 weeks from the point a complete application is received — but the clock only starts when the application is complete, and gathering the paperwork first commonly takes families up to three weeks.

There are two waits, not one. First, assembling statements, valuations and figures — advisors report this takes up to three weeks unaided. Then the HSE's own processing, which advisors put at roughly 4–6 weeks on average once a complete application lands.

If you use the Nursing Home Loan, expect longer: 10–12 weeks is typical and the HSE says 'several months' is possible, with title documents the usual bottleneck.

These durations are indicative and advisor-reported, not official HSE service standards. The one hard rule is the clock rule: incomplete applications don't start the timer.
